Located in Apollo Bay, our nursery grows a wide range of local indigenous plants—from wet forest and rainforest species to heathland and coastal plants.
All our seed is collected across the Otways, and our plants are grown outdoors, making them well-adapted to the local climate and conditions.
We grow:
ferns,
wildflowers,
groundcovers,
grasses,
shrubs, and
trees,
suitable for revegetation projects, shelter belts, or your garden.
We will happily recommend the appropriate plants for any project or property. Our stock varies seasonally and large orders should be placed well in advance to allow seed collection and propagation.
You can place your order directly, using our online order form, or contact our nursery managers, Nicole (nicole.landcare@soln.org) or Abby (abby.landcare@soln.org). We look forward to hearing from you!
At Shrub Club Community Nursery in Apollo Bay, we grow locally indigenous plants from across the Otways — all grown from seed we collect by hand from Wye River to Johanna. From coastal ecosystems to tall wet forests and the ancient rainforests of the ranges, our seed is sourced from the landscapes these plants belong to.
Because our plants are truly local, they’re perfectly adapted to Otway conditions — our soils, rainfall, winds and climate. We grow everything outdoors to ensure strong, resilient stock suited to real-world planting.
Our range includes ferns, wildflowers, groundcovers, grasses, shrubs and trees, spanning a diversity of ecosystems. Whether you’re planning revegetation, establishing a shelter belt, or choosing beautiful indigenous species for your garden, our plants are the right fit for this place.
Seed collection and propagation are led by our Landcare facilitators and supported by a passionate team of dedicated volunteers. We follow horticultural best practice to produce healthy, robust and genetically diverse plants.
Our plants are mostly grown in forestry tubes, as well as a selection of garden plants in 14cm pots. We can grow in hikos or lannens on request for large orders.

Events & Volunteering opportunities
Shrub Club Propagation Session
Wednesdays, 9-12pm, followed by lunch
Every week, our community of volunteers comes together at the nursery for our propagation sessions, and we’d love to see you there! Whether you’re an experienced green thumb or just starting out, there’s a role for everyone—potting up seedlings, sowing seeds, building, weeding, tending irrigation, or helping with general nursery tasks.
Shrub Club is a place to learn new skills, contribute to growing strong, healthy plants for our local landscape, and support biodiversity and ecosystem health. But it’s not just about work—it’s also about community. Share a laugh, enjoy great conversation, and stay for a delicious meal at the end of the session. Feel free to bring a plate to share and enjoy the meal with us.
Plant Walks
First Tuesday of the month (check our calendar for monthly locations)
Each month, we invite the community to join us on our plant walks—an opportunity to explore the Otways, collect seed by hand for our nursery, and learn about local flora and plant identification. We visit a different site each month, from rainforest and heathlands to coastal areas and waterways, with locations published in our weekly e-news and on our calendar.
Plant walks are a hands-on way to connect with nature, contribute to our local restoration efforts, and discover the incredible diversity of plants that make the Otways so special. Everyone is welcome!
Address: End of Piggery Lane (off 125 Montrose Ave, Apollo Bay).
Opening Hours: The nursery is open for plant sales 9am-1pm every Tuesday and Thursday, or by appointment.
